Strategy

As part of our long-term strategy to ensure a reliable water supply, the Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) program helps secure dependable quality water for the future. We withdraw nearly 40 million gallons of water daily from aquifers, making water conservation efforts more important than ever.

Whether you're curious about how much water our county uses, looking for water-saving tips from the EPA, or want to learn more about groundwater in the United States, this page is a great place to start.

Protecting Our Water Supply

Each year, the County's water treatment facilities provide about 12.6 billion gallons of clean drinking water. Protecting our water supply is a shared responsibility. You can do your part by understanding that tiny leaks can lead to large impacts on our water supply.

  • Irrigation System Leaks

A hole as small as 1/32 of an inch — about the thickness of a dime — can waste over 6,000 gallons of water per month. Check your system each spring for damage from freezing weather.
  • Dripping Showerheads

Just 10 drips per minute adds up to 500+ gallons a year — enough to run 60 dishwasher loads.
  • Leaky Toilets

A single toilet can leak more than 200 gallons a day without you even noticing.
  • Dripping Faucets

One drip per second wastes 3,000+ gallons annually — the same as taking over 180 showers.
